Oh so strange!!

Even if you like watching cricket would you go to the Ferozshah Kotla to watch…hmm…say for example a test match between Namibia and Holland!! 9 out of 10 people wont!! Why? Because they may not be able to sit through an hour forget 6 hrs. It’s so obvious isn’t it? If you don’t like something that passionately you can’t tolerate it for long. You may still go and watch a 20-20 between the two teams.

Similarly, I can’t sit through a movie for 3 hrs at a stretch. Which is why I don’t like to go to movie halls. And I am fed up of people giving me that are-you-crazy look. Its not that I hate watching movies but it is certainly not my hobby or my source of entertainment. I’d rather watch cartoon or a cricket match (could be highlights of a match played 3 yrs ago! I still watch the repeat telecast of the India-Pakistan 20-20 final with the same tension… as if India will lose! ) or simply sit at home and do nothing at all. Movies might be a nice way to unwind during the weekend, a source of entertainment for many people, but not for me. Then why give me that look and make me feel guilty for being a spoilsport whenever there is a plan to go for a movie? Friends have tried their best time and again to convince me for a trip to the hall...but in vain!!! If am being rude, so be it...but spare me the torture!!

Not that I don’t watch movies at all!! I watch them in installments. I’ll watch half the the movie today and the rest may be tomorrow or a few months later… makes no difference to me!! There are just a handful of movies which I have seen in one go; like Amar Akhbar Anthony, chak de, Titanic, goodbye Lenin, Lagaan, Tare Zameen par, Das Leben der Anderen, Slumdog Millionaire, Oye Lucky, Dev D, Ghajni and a few more. My problem is that I can’t watch crap, silly love stories and the same old Bollywood themes. If there is something different, something new or something out of the box I can watch it for sure…But not necessarily in a movie hall.

I am so impatient that I can’t sit at one place for more that 15 -20 mins. This is why I prefer watching a movie on my computer or on Television. I can pause the movie on my PC and move around and on Television they show enough ads for me to take a walk (a 20 min long ad is not welcome though; I might find better things to do!)

But there is one thing I really find strange. If I like a movie I can actually watch it again n again n again!!! I’ve seen Border and Titanic more than ten times, Qayamat se Qayamat tak abt 8 times and Das Leben der Anderen and Goodbye Lenin thrice I guess!!! There are a few more such movies. 

I hope I’m making sense… Is it fair to force someone to adopt your hobby? Think about it before giving that oh- so- strange look again! And one more thing, there are things that we do for our loved ones even if we don’t like it ...all for that elusive precious smile, for some beautiful moments…that’s where the charm lies!!

So, next time someone refuses to do to something that you like, don’t make them feel as if they are strange…they are just different! You never know they may one day agree to share your hobby or your likings just to see that smile on your face, no matter how much they hate doing what they are… the inner satisfaction of having made somebody’s day is beyond expression. It’s all about how you make them feel!!
