Home is where you live!!!

Whenever I empty my bag I find bus tickets…not 1or 2 rather 10-15 of them, then there are chocolate and biscuit wrappers, crushed pieces of paper, used tissues etc. I feel proud to see those things because it means that they’ll find their right place…the dustbin! I feel happy that I don’t throw these things on the road…a bit of civic sense is all that is needed. All of us so promptly agree that our roads are dirty, there’s garbage everywhere but let me remind you garbage does not grow on the road, it’s thrown on the road by people like you and me….Me not anymore!! This is what makes me proud. :-)

It’s such a simple thing to do. If each one of us stops throwing things on the road it will remain clean forever. It’s our responsibility to keep the city clean; stop blaming the government. We should be ashamed that the government has so much of garbage to take care of. Though I agree that the government is not very serious about all these, they have other things to take care of like the nuclear waste, budget, and recession for instance. So let’s take care of the garbage department at least. It’s very easy. Home is where you live. So, your city is your home! Don’t do things that you normally don’t do at home. Do you spit in your drawing room? Do you throw orange peels near the kitchen? Do you throw a chocolate wrapper anywhere in the house? Do u leave your cigarette butts on the table? The answer in all probability would be ‘No’!! Treat your city like your home!!

Once we become conscious that we have keep it clean, we’ll certainly find our own ways and not complain about lack of dustbins etc. We do have dustbins if you care to look for one. Let’s accept that we can’t have dustbins wherever we want it. Can’t we keep that wrapper in our hands or put it in our bags or pockets for a little while? Isn’t it worth the effort?

And, Guys you all have walls at home, right??? Do you at home ever stand and do what you are seen doing on the walls along the road?? I can understand the urgency but by turning your back you may not be able to see people but people around you certainly can, they just walk away and pretend having not seen you!!! It smells really bad…trust me. And the funny part is one after the other, guys use the place right next to the already wet area…which makes it smellier!! Please avoid doing it. I hope I embarrassed you enough!!

I’ll be glad if people start treating their cities like their homes; after all we live here. Those of us who are planning to just laugh it off have no right to say that our cities are stinky and dirty. Lets be responsible citizens!!

Oh so strange!!

Even if you like watching cricket would you go to the Ferozshah Kotla to watch…hmm…say for example a test match between Namibia and Holland!! 9 out of 10 people wont!! Why? Because they may not be able to sit through an hour forget 6 hrs. It’s so obvious isn’t it? If you don’t like something that passionately you can’t tolerate it for long. You may still go and watch a 20-20 between the two teams.

Similarly, I can’t sit through a movie for 3 hrs at a stretch. Which is why I don’t like to go to movie halls. And I am fed up of people giving me that are-you-crazy look. Its not that I hate watching movies but it is certainly not my hobby or my source of entertainment. I’d rather watch cartoon or a cricket match (could be highlights of a match played 3 yrs ago! I still watch the repeat telecast of the India-Pakistan 20-20 final with the same tension… as if India will lose! ) or simply sit at home and do nothing at all. Movies might be a nice way to unwind during the weekend, a source of entertainment for many people, but not for me. Then why give me that look and make me feel guilty for being a spoilsport whenever there is a plan to go for a movie? Friends have tried their best time and again to convince me for a trip to the hall...but in vain!!! If am being rude, so be it...but spare me the torture!!

Not that I don’t watch movies at all!! I watch them in installments. I’ll watch half the the movie today and the rest may be tomorrow or a few months later… makes no difference to me!! There are just a handful of movies which I have seen in one go; like Amar Akhbar Anthony, chak de, Titanic, goodbye Lenin, Lagaan, Tare Zameen par, Das Leben der Anderen, Slumdog Millionaire, Oye Lucky, Dev D, Ghajni and a few more. My problem is that I can’t watch crap, silly love stories and the same old Bollywood themes. If there is something different, something new or something out of the box I can watch it for sure…But not necessarily in a movie hall.

I am so impatient that I can’t sit at one place for more that 15 -20 mins. This is why I prefer watching a movie on my computer or on Television. I can pause the movie on my PC and move around and on Television they show enough ads for me to take a walk (a 20 min long ad is not welcome though; I might find better things to do!)

But there is one thing I really find strange. If I like a movie I can actually watch it again n again n again!!! I’ve seen Border and Titanic more than ten times, Qayamat se Qayamat tak abt 8 times and Das Leben der Anderen and Goodbye Lenin thrice I guess!!! There are a few more such movies. 

I hope I’m making sense… Is it fair to force someone to adopt your hobby? Think about it before giving that oh- so- strange look again! And one more thing, there are things that we do for our loved ones even if we don’t like it ...all for that elusive precious smile, for some beautiful moments…that’s where the charm lies!!

So, next time someone refuses to do to something that you like, don’t make them feel as if they are strange…they are just different! You never know they may one day agree to share your hobby or your likings just to see that smile on your face, no matter how much they hate doing what they are… the inner satisfaction of having made somebody’s day is beyond expression. It’s all about how you make them feel!!
